In his last appearance as energy commissioner at the Parliament, Oettinger looked back at his tenure over the last five years and discussed future challenges regarding the EU’s energy policy, including the continuing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Russia: airstrikes must be agreed with Syria or will fuel tension

MID RUThe Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday any airstrikes against Islamic State’s positions on Syrian territory must be agreed with Damascus and otherwise will fuel tension in the region.

«Any such action can be carried out only in accordance with international law.

That implies not a formal, one-sided ‘notification’ of airstrikes but the presence of explicit consent from the government of Syria or the approval of a corresponding U.N. Security Council decision,» it said in a statement. …. Διαβάστε περισσότερα…

PUTIN Yanukovych 17 decMOSCOW, December 17 (RIA Novosti) – Russia on Tuesday sharply lowered natural gas prices for Ukraine and provided its economically struggling neighbor with a multibillion loan package in a move that Ukraine’s government may hope will spell an end to ongoing street protests.
President Vladimir Putin announced at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in Moscow that Russia will sell gas to Ukraine’s Naftogaz energy company for $268.5 per 1,000 cubic meters, well below the current level of more than $400. Ukraine Won’t Sign Association Agreement, EU Confirms. -«In the interest of Ukraine’s national security.»

Ukraine will not be signing an Association Agreement with the European Union, confirmed EU special envoy Aleksander Kwasniewski.


«Our mission is over,» said Kwasniewski, adding that no Association Agreement will be signed at the upcoming meeting in Vilnius next week.

Earlier Thursday, Ukraine’s government announced it adopted a decision to stop the country’s preparation for signing an Association Agreement with the European Union.

Greece welcomes the adoption by the Plenary of the 68th UN General Assembly, on Wednesday, 6 November 2013, of a Resolution on the observance of the Olympic Truce for the period from 7 days before through 7 days after the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, which will take place from 7 to 23 February 2014.

The Draft Resolution was submitted by the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN and received the full support of the Greek Permanent Mission, given that Greece, as the birthplace of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Idea, is a longstanding supporter of global sports cooperation and the idea of reviving the Olympic Truce…………… Διαβάστε περισσότερα…
