Νέα Γεώτρηση στην Ισραηλινή ΑΟΖ, Δίπλα από το Οικόπεδο 12Greece has accused Turkey of escalating tensions around Cyprus and undermining negotiations on settlement of the Cyprus issue, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a Thursday statement.

«Unfortunately, at the center … is Turkey’s refusal to see that the Republic of Cyprus is an independent and sovereign state, a member of the UN and the European Union, that exercises sovereignty and sovereign rights, in accordance with international law.

The exercising of these rights includes the maritime zones (EEZ) provided for by the Law of the Sea; more specifically, the Exclusive Economic Zone and the Continental Shelf,» the statement said………………………EL ETHNOS…………………….EL AN

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras made the following statement in response to journalists’ questions on the photographing of the Deputy Speaker of the FYROM Parliament, Antonio Milososki, at the top of Mount Olympus, with the Vergina Sun:
“We thank Mr. Milososki for visiting our country to be photographed, in Greece, with the Vergina Sun, a Greek national symbol………

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, referring to FYROM’s Euroatlantic perspective during yesterday’s working dinner on the Open Door Policy, at the Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels, reminded everyone that the name issue is not a bilateral matter between Greek and FYROM, but a pending international problem, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

In this context, Greece fully respects the process being directed by the UN Secretary General, through Mr. Nimetz, for the resolution of the name issue, which is essentially a matter of good neighbourly relations, of respect for international law, and of regional security………….. Greece welcomes the adoption by the Plenary of the 68th UN General Assembly, on Wednesday, 6 November 2013, of a Resolution on the observance of the Olympic Truce for the period from 7 days before through 7 days after the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, which will take place from 7 to 23 February 2014.

The Draft Resolution was submitted by the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN and received the full support of the Greek Permanent Mission, given that Greece, as the birthplace of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Idea, is a longstanding supporter of global sports cooperation and the idea of reviving the Olympic Truce…………… Διαβάστε περισσότερα…

Mr. Schulz, a front-line European political figure, is the European Socialist Party’s choice for the position of the Presidency of the new European Commission; the European Commission that we want to see result from the European Parliamentary elections in May.

In my capacity as President of Pasok, I am truly glad to have cosponsored the proposal for Martin Schulz’s candidacy for the position of the new President of the European Commission.
