Ukraine Won’t Sign Association Agreement, EU Confirms. -«In the interest of Ukraine’s national security.»

Ukraine will not be signing an Association Agreement with the European Union, confirmed EU special envoy Aleksander Kwasniewski.


«Our mission is over,» said Kwasniewski, adding that no Association Agreement will be signed at the upcoming meeting in Vilnius next week.

Earlier Thursday, Ukraine’s government announced it adopted a decision to stop the country’s preparation for signing an Association Agreement with the European Union.

The decision whether to continue work for the Association Agreement was highly anticipated, as Ukraine had to decide between forging closer ties with the EU and joining the Belarus-Kazakhstan-Russia customs union………………….. Διαβάστε περισσότερα…

Three former presidents of Bulgaria have criticized recent moves to oppose setting a start date for EU accession negotiations with FYROM.
The three ex-Presidents made their criticisms known following Tuesday’s decision of the European Council for General Affairs.

Bulgarian FM Reissues EU Warning to F.Y.R.O.M.

FYROM must put to an end «the anti-Bulgarian campaign» supported by its government, stated Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov Saturday.

Speaking for Darik Radio, Mladenov continued a string of harsh remarks by himself and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, requesting more co-operation from FYROM if the country wants Bulgarian support for its EU bid.

«The anti-Bulgarian campaign in FYROM creates an infinite discomfort in Bulgarian public opinion,» commented Mladenov.

How the Greeks can get their marbles back

The Parthenon Marbles will never be handed back to Greece on cultural grounds. That would upset the status quo of museums and collectors worldwide. But any reference of artefacts to present day religious significance sends tremors down the spine of curators of museums, as it would, undoubtedly encroach upon issues of Human Rights.
This must be the basis of the argument for Greece to regain the Parthenon Marbles. In 1801, Greece was under the occupation of the Turks. The Earl of Elgin, the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire at the time, bribed the Turks in order to get permission to hack away at the sculptures of the Parthenon. Elgin filled over 100 large packing cases with friezes, metopes and figures from the pediments and shipped them to England where they were sold to the British Museum in 1816 for £35,000 to pay his debts. ………..
