Bulgarian agricultural bodies protest against end of ban on sale of land to foreigners…

agricultural bgBulgarian agricultural organisations organised protests in Sofia and six other cities and towns, as well as in cities abroad, on October 20 against the January 2014 end on the moratorium on the sale of land to foreigners.

Given that the end of the ban is set in Bulgaria’s European Union accession treaty, the protest was largely futile, but with sunshine and relatively warm temperatures lighting the autumn day, it was quite nice to be outside, at least, probably a factor of importance to farmers.

A campaign against the end of the ban and a call to extend it by a further seven years was first highlighted by Volen Siderov’s ultra-nationalist Ataka party, leading the Bulgarian Socialist Party government – effectively politically dependent on Ataka – to try to find ways to respond………….. Bulgarian Ex-Presidents Slam F.Y.R.O.M. Blockade

Three former presidents of Bulgaria have criticized recent moves to oppose setting a start date for EU accession negotiations with FYROM.
The three ex-Presidents made their criticisms known following Tuesday’s decision of the European Council for General Affairs.

Bulgarian FM Reissues EU Warning to F.Y.R.O.M.

FYROM must put to an end «the anti-Bulgarian campaign» supported by its government, stated Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov Saturday.

Speaking for Darik Radio, Mladenov continued a string of harsh remarks by himself and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, requesting more co-operation from FYROM if the country wants Bulgarian support for its EU bid.

«The anti-Bulgarian campaign in FYROM creates an infinite discomfort in Bulgarian public opinion,» commented Mladenov.

Bulgaria challenges Russia on energy issues

Bulgarian Govt: Greece Delays Launch of Makaza Border Pass

The vastly delayed opening of the crossing point at the Makaza mountain pass on the Bulgarian-Greek border is the fault of Greece, Bulgarian Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova.

«Bulgaria has fulfilled its commitment in time, while Greece is delaying the launching of the Makaza Pass border crossing. Bulgaria has been ready to launch the Makaza crossing since November 2011,» Pavlova declared Monday, as cited by the press service of the Bulgarian Regional Development Ministry……. Νέο πρόβλημα για την ενταξιακή πορεία της ΠΓΔΜ αποτελούν οι σχέσεις της με την Βουλγαρία, σημείωσε ο αρμόδιος για τη διεύρυνση της ΕΕ Επίτροπος, Στέφαν Φούλε, αναδεικνύοντας τη σημασία που έχει για την ευρωπαϊκή ενταξιακή πορεία η καλλιέργεια και διατήρηση των σχέσεων καλής γειτονίας.
Όπως τόνισε, όλες οι γείτονες χώρες είναι σημαντικές για την υποψήφια προς ένταξη χώρα. Σε σχέση με την Ελλάδα, αναφέρθηκε στο ζήτημα της ονομασίας το οποίο πρέπει να λυθεί.
