Skopje, 17 October 2012 (MIA) – Citizens of the FYROM share the European ideas and see their future in the European Union. We don’t wish for special treatment, but the same one under which other countries joined the Union. Bilateral issues should not hinder the EU accession process, Prime Minister and VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski said Wednesday in his address at the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Bucharest……
Recently adopted enlargement strategy of the European Commission clearly says that bilateral issues should not hold up the EU accession process of the countries, he said.
«The enlargement process may significantly contribute to resolving the bilateral issues. The (FYROM’s) Government will remain fully committed to the reforms and remarks notified in the last (EC) report, as well as the obligations under the ongoing high level pre-accession dialogue with the EU,» Gruevski said.
The European Commission has been recommending launching of FYROM’s EU accession four years in row, which is the strongest confirmation of ‘our reform course and EU agenda,» Gruevski said, singling out the last one as most positive thus far.
For Gruevski the EPP Congress presents an opportunity to establish contacts with several presidents of EPP members as well as with key European figures in a bid to lobby for FYROM’s interests.
«This is a good opportunity to hold formal or informal meetings with leaders of parties that are EPP members, prime ministers, members of their delegations, foreign ministers and to lobby in a way and to present our views on certain issues,» stated Gruevski.
Participants at the Congress will discuss the challenges facing Europe as well as ways to intensify cooperation amongst European countries.
The EPP Congress in Bucharest brings together 2,000 members, including 16 heads and premiers of EU states. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the European Commission President José  Manuel Barroso, EPP leader Wilfried Martens and many other are set to speak at the Congress.
The EPP is the largest and most influential European-level political party of the centre right, which currently includes 74 member-parties from 39 countries, the Presidents of the European Commission, European Council, and European Parliament, 17 EU and 6 non-EU heads of state and government, 13 members of the European Commission and the largest Group in the European Parliament. lk/ba/20:34
